What's Going On?

This blog has been severely lacking in content lately, even if you count the eye candy and cinematic pontificating (which would be kind). We really should update you on the exciting day to day happenings of our humble household.

Let's start with Alicia. Since Christmas her development has taken off, and in a number of directions. While in Vancouver she began to crawl in earnest, getting around on all fours with ease. She also began pulling herself up on stuff, and has gotten much better at it now. She's even tried her hand (and both knees) at climbing stairs, and managed to make it up a couple. But her mobility isn't all that's been changing. At the same time she's also gotten much more interested in eating, and will gulp down a fair amount of most anything we give her now, from Cheerios to bananas, avacado or pureed lentil soup. It's hard to say whether she's a messy eater or not...it kinda depends on the feeder.

She's also added a few consonants to her babbling repertoire, which as all you parents know, instantly makes her vocalizations ten times cuter. At times she seems quite intent on conveying something of great importance.

Speaking of which, Toby is as entertaining as ever. He's getting ready to be three, but he's still quite two as well, which means that although his conversation seems more sophisticated by the day, he can also burst into tears during the most mundane exchanges.

Toby - Can I be Bob the Builder?
Josh - Sure you can!
Toby - But I'm not Bob the Builder!
Josh - Oh, but you can pretend to be Bob the Builder.
Toby - But I want to be Bob the Builder!
Josh - You can be...
Toby - (Uncontrollable crying)

Thankfully this is the not the norm for our dialogues. And as Toby is getting very adept at adding common colloquialisms and figures of speech to his vocabulary, he can be quite hilarious.

Josh - (to Michelle) Well, I guess I'll put Toby down for his nap now.
Toby - (from across room) I heard that!

We laughed for five minutes straight at that one, which pretty much guarantees he'll be using it again sometime soon.

Toby is getting very good at playing with his sister. She adores him, so any attention he gives her is eaten up. He's quite protective of her too, always careful to close the door of his room so Alicia won't crawl away and fall down the stairs.

The only other thing that must be mentioned is that we've also spent a lot of time sick this month. We had a nice two week stretch of health following Christmas, but it wasn't fated to last. None of us have completely escaped the sundry bugs going around, though symptoms and recovery times have varied wildly from Fuller to Fuller. Toby and I seem to be the most resilient, Alicia the most sensitive, and Michelle just procrastinates and gets sick a week after everyone else.
