Never confuse movement with action.

I have not blogged for 24 days. That may be a good thing, since the last thing the world needs is another blog which goes on and on about how pathetic this campaign has become, or regular updates on how many boxes we've packed and how much we're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday at 9am to help us move. And it's certainly a good thing that I've actually been packing boxes instead of writing about it.

So why now, five days before this impending move, am I taking the time to blog? Well, for one thing, I was ordered not to pack anything tonight. There was a good reason for that, and this blog post was going to be about that reason. But things change fast sometimes, especially after they have moved at a snail's pace for weeks.

Our closing was scheduled, a few weeks ago, for Monday the 20th, with our buyers taking possession on that day. So we wanted to be out the weekend before, obviously. And we have made great efforts to be ready to do that, including arranging for our utilities to be terminated or transferred to the new location, as well as the packing. Our house was inspected and we made a few minor improvements in order to be sure we were up to code. And all the while, we've been waiting for our buyers' mortgage company to have the house appraised so that they can get all their ducks in some sort of pile too. Conventional wisdom is, the appraisal has to be done at least a week before closing in order for everything to wrap up smoothly.

Yeah, that would be today.

So as we've waited, hearing nothing, occasionally being vaguely assured by our Realtor (for Jenell) that everything is fine, we've started to wonder what happens if the closing gets pushed out. How long are we talking about? Should we still move this weekend, if this is still our house for another few weeks? Months? Is this the first sign that our buyers' bank is actually going bankrupt and our sale is not going to happen at all? Are we going to end up stuck in this house, out two and a half months' rent with no recourse? And why did we have to put up two and a half months' rent in advance anyway? Isn't it usually just two at the most?

That's what I was going to write a blog post about. But about an hour ago, Re/Max called and scheduled the appraisal for tomorrow. So it looks like we'll be alright.

So thank you to everyone who prayed that our sale would happen. Thank you to the people who prayed that Michelle would not go insane. And a special thanks to everyone who will be here on Saturday for the fun part.
