The First of 2340 Days
Approximately. And I did my own math. Not Josh.
Toby started school in the rich neighborhood today. Kinda white for my taste, but not entirely. It's a little more than a ten minute drive away.
School today was only 20 minutes long. All the parents stayed. Some children brought two. The rest of the week is only one hour per day. Next week starts with two days of parent conferences and then Toby finally gets to go to a full day of school on Wednesday. Crazy. The days that he only goes for an hour, it's only half the class. It's all an effort to help the teachers get to know the kids well before school really gets underway.
Toby seemed to think that school was okay, but is apprehensive about tomorrow. His mother, the love of his life, doesn't get to stay tomorrow.
Josh is the one who gets to take the bus. But the bus just changed its plan. It doesn't drive all the way into the city any more. Now it drives to a new skytrain line instead. The switch took him about 10 minutes extra this morning. Since his commute by bus is already about 1.5 hours one way, an extra 10 minutes is a bummer. But that's life. We have two cars now, so we've planned for Josh to drive about twice a week and bus the rest for the sake of parking and gas costs and CO2 and all that. We'll see how long that holds.
The best part of the day was deciding on a whim that the first day of school deserved a treat. After some last minute calls, our minivan took us, Derek, and Brianna out for ice cream! Awesome! Can't do that in MN. The uncle and aunt part, anyway.
Happy first day of school Toby!

He looks so old! Oh Michelle, how are you doing with him going to school? I'm sure he's going to love it after he gets used to it :-) When does Alicia start?
